Why Adpi: Simone Oberreiter PC'19
"What I love about ADPi is the wide range of amazing women it attracts. We have members from all over campus coming together to share a unique bond."
Hi there PNMs!! My name is Simone and I am a third year Business Economics and Accounting student here at UCLA. I went through formal recruitment Fall quarter of my first year, and have loved it ever since!
I signed up for rush about one week before recruitment started. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go through recruitment; my mom and older sister never did, and I didn’t really know what I was getting into. I can confidently say that even though I was flying blind, joining ADPi was one of the best decisions I have made throughout my college career.
ADPi introduced me to 170-ish amazing women that I am now fortunate enough to call my friends and sisters. I remember looking around at ADPi Bid Day with my first college friend and current roommate, Karina, thinking, “How am I going to meet all of these people?” ADPi did not make it hard. Soon enough I was immersed in the chapter, meeting new friends and potential “bigs” left and right.
I went to as many social and philanthropy events as I could in order to put myself out there and really get the most out of ADPi. I was fortunate enough to spend 2/3 of my first year in person, and I can confidently say that those were some of the best 6 months of my life, mostly due to ADPi.
Even during the 2020-2021 school year, ADPi was an integral part of my college experience. My 3 current roommates are all ADPis, and when it was deemed safe we would make it a point to invite other “ADPi Apartments” over for dinners or to play RockBand. I also ran for an Executive Committee position in 2021, VP of Finance after serving as Finance Assistant in 2020. Throughout my term I have learned so much, and the knowledge I gained from this position is just another shining example of all that ADPi has given me.
What I love about ADPi is the wide range of amazing women it attracts. We have members from all over campus coming together to share a unique bond. Some of my sisters are future rocket scientists, future lawyers, college athletes, etc. I also love that each of our members values things beyond greek life at UCLA, whether it be volunteering, professional organizations, campus clubs or anything else around Westwood! I always know if I have a question (about literally anything) someone will know the answer (or get you in contact with someone who does)!
I’m very excited to see what new opportunities the 2021-2022 school year will hold. Even if you’re unsure about joining greek life, I encourage you to sign up for recruitment. Go in with an open mind and don’t let yourself be intimidated by the sheer size of it all. Regardless of where you run home to, the recruitment process will bring you sisters for life and add a valuable asset to your college experience (and life as an alumni)! Of course, I’m partial to ADPi, but I guess you’ll soon see why I speak so highly of this sisterhood.
I look forward to meeting all of your bright and shining faces in September - see you soon!
