My Why ADPi: Sophia Liu PC'19

"Every girl I met had unique passions and I was able to have intellectually stimulating conversations on a wide range of topics."

Hey PNMS! My name is Sophia Liu and I’m part of Alpha Delta Pi’s PC 19 here at UCLA. I’m an Aerospace Engineering major from the San Francisco Bay Area. Getting accepted into UCLA was one of the happiest days of my life and the memories I’ve made at school have been absolutely incredible. When I arrived on campus last fall, I wasn’t planning on rushing, but I ended up signing up because I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to make friends and see what was out there.

Let me tell you… Rush is unlike anything else you will experience in your life. It was a challenging week, both mentally and physically. It was also transformative -- I truly think I came out a better person, more in touch with myself, and my conversational skills sharpened.

I fell in love with Alpha Delta Pi the first day of recruitment. I was struck by the authenticity and (for lack of a better word) ~good vibes~ that I felt while talking to the girls in the house. Every girl I met had unique passions and I was able to have intellectually stimulating conversations on a wide range of topics. It was also clear to me how deep the sisterhood ran. I could tell that these girls cared for and supported each other through thick and thin, and that was something I was really looking for in sorority.

Since officially joining ADPi, I’ve grown extremely close to my diamond sisters, especially my big, Reyna Wong. It’s safe to say that she has seen me at my very worst, and has helped me through some especially chaotic nights.

I can’t wait to meet you and I’m sure this will be an amazing year, despite the unusual circumstances. Remember not to take recruitment too seriously (or anything else for that matter). You are an extraordinary individual and the right people will see that. Go Bruins!
