Philanthropy Impact: Savana Maxfield PC’20

"Part of what drew me to ADPi was our philanthropy. Going through recruitment my freshman year, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare and ADPi’s involvement with RMHC seemed like a perfect combination of my passions for a great cause."

Hello hello!

My name is Savana and I’m a rising senior majoring in Human Biology and Society (HBS) and minoring in Biomedical Research here at UCLA. I am currently ADPi’s Director of Philanthropy for my second consecutive year. In our chapter, we work to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), which provides housing and support for families with children going through medical treatment. The organization is one that truly allows families to stay together and helps those in times of need, something our chapter values immensely. We support RMHC by cooking meals for children and their families, making care packages, volunteering at events and fundraising. Our largest philo event every year is a soccer tournament on UCLA’s campus that chapters across the row can participate in, as well as clubs and organizations beyond Greek life! Lion’s Cup is basically an event where you get to give back and also hang out with your sisters and even gives girls opportunities to coach and ref some of the teams - it’s been one of my favorite annual traditions in my time here!

I had such a positive experience working in this role my first year that I was motivated to retain the position for a second year. It was a slightly challenging time given my freshmen year was online and UCLA was transitioning back to in-person, but through this experience, I really did find endless opportunities for personal growth. Being part of such a motivated leadership team within our chapter has also offered me so many avenues to explore my own creativity and forge connections with amazing people. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities this position has given me to develop as an individual and leader in my community. My favorite part about coordinating our philanthropy efforts is the variety of people I get to work and form relationships with. I have the opportunity to collaborate with other chapters across the row, build stronger bonds with ADPi members, and closely work with RMHC.

When I was going through recruitment, part of what drew me to ADPi was our philanthropy. I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, and ADPi’s involvement with RMHC seemed like a perfect combination of my passions for a great cause. It has been thoroughly rewarding to be able to further my academic interests and passions while also serving my community and having an organization like ADPi to help facilitate our involvement. I have had chances to bond with true friends, enact impactful change, and genuinely explore a field that I hope to enter soon.

For the past two years of working with RMHC, the unwavering support that ADPi has provided to families in need has furthered my passion for providing care to patients in a healthcare setting and beyond. Our philanthropy is a defining cornerstone of the chapter, and being able to promote our involvement brings me so much joy. If you’re interested in helping out RMHC, you can donate here!!
