Summer Recommendations: Ahna Muhlon & Lauren Reed PC'21

"There is so much to do on campus and off campus, but the best part is getting to explore it all with your closest friends."

Hello all!!

Our names are Lauren and Ahna, and we are ADPi’s Director of Primary Recruitment and Vice President of Marketing. We’re so excited to share our summer favorites with you guys.

Since moving into the HOP, we make frequent (we’re talking almost daily) trips into Westwood for The Big Three (Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Target not Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor). We love to mix in different places when grabbing something to eat, including:

  • Jersey Mike’s: Ahna drags Lauren here because she misses home and Lauren now loves it

  • Tocaya: you have not lived until you’ve had the Fajita Del Ray bowl

  • Sweetgreen: a recent favorite we discovered and have not gotten enough of!

  • Tulsi: one of our favorite memories here is walking back to ADPi after a UCLA baseball game and deciding that we needed to stop by and we’ve been going back ever since!

  • Kreation: if you live in LA you are obligated to have an incredibly overpriced yet delicious smoothie at least once

  • Taco’s 1986: if you’ve ever wanted to eat at the same place as Joe Biden, now’s your chance

Getting off campus and going on a walk is great whether we’re grabbing snacks before watching Ted Lasso on the balcony or having movie nights with other ADPis in the TV room. It’s also so fun to stay up to date with the premieres happening in Westwood—we were lucky enough to meet Kristen Bell and be invited to watch her film!

In the evenings, Barney’s Trivia Nights (every Tuesday, but make sure to go before 7pm if you are under 21) are a crowd favorite. Whether you are with a small or large group of friends we promise you will have a memorable night. We’ve come close and far to victory and certainly won’t forgive Dave for using an old version of the game that doesn’t know how many Batman movies there actually are.

When the sun is out so are the hammocks and picnic blankets! Tongva steps is one of the central places to relax at UCLA. You’ll find many ADPis and UCLA students lounging in the grass with friends or relaxing in between classes. It’s also the site of our yearly ADPicnic where we relax in the sun in between classes with (free) snacks and beverages.

If you want to spend the day exploring more of LA and being a classic tourist, head to Melrose Trading Post. Add some brunch and it’s the perfect way to go! We have a few favorite spots. If you want to stay local to Westwood, Elysee and Le Pain Quotidien are the best. If you want to venture outside Westwood but still be close, Zinque in Century City and True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica are amazing options.

While off campus, we highly recommend Will Rogers beach. It cures all (especially during midterm and finals season). Finding any body of water closest to you, perhaps even a posh Malibu moment, is a great way to make the best of going to the top college in Southern California (trust us everyone back home will be jealous of you having a beach day in the middle of February)!

ADPis also love our weekend getaways to Orange County, San Diego, Santa Barbara, or Palm Springs. During the winter (and even spring) you can always find an ADPi hitting the slopes at Big Bear or Mammoth.

There is so much to do on campus and off campus, but the best part is getting to explore it all with your closest friends. We hope you’re able to check some of these out as you spend time in Westwood. More importantly, we hope you find the home and friendship in the Panhellenic community that we found in ADPi.

Two best friends lucky enough to plan Recruitment together,

Lauren and Ahna 🫶
